The Long Drive Home

The drive through life after the loss
of my partner.

Goin’ down the highway
on a Monday afternoon
with your things packed in the back
returnin’ home but without you
I’m still in a state of shock
my life in shattered by the fact
I’m alone you left without me
and you won’t be comin’ back
on the long drive home
So I try to think of nothin’
as I sit behind the wheel
five years we spent together
I don’t know just how to feel
funny how the days have taxed me
left these lines upon my face
swear I leave first thing tomorrow
disappear without a trace
on the long drive home
